ASR Electives

On various Friday afternoons, All Saints Regional Catholic School 5th through 8th graders have the opportunity to explore and develop career aspirations, scientific wonders, lifetime hobbies and athletic skills during educational and fun elective mini-courses.  The mini-courses, taught by a mix of parents and teachers with subject matter expertise, range from astronomy and crime scene analysis to future teacher preparation.

All Saints Regional Catholic School provides a quality education for students in nursery through grade 8.  For further information about All Saints Regional Catholic Elementary School, please call 676-0762 or visit online at www.asrcatholic.com.

The next generation of C.S.I.s investigate staged crime scenes, collect and analyze evidence and use science and logic to solve crimes.  Future environmentalists explore ways to help our endangered environment and improve the future of our world, while future dream analysts investigate dreams and their meanings.  The astronomers of the future explore the many wonders of our universe including stars, nebulas, quasars, solar systems, galaxies, planets, supernovas and black holes through computerized telescope observation, film and lecture.  Students interested in the workings of living organisms conduct animal and plant dissections and microscopic examinations.      A less scientific, but equally challenging mini-course is knitting where students learn this lifelong skill and create personalized hats, scarfs, gloves, sweaters and quilts.  Similarly, those students in sewing class learn to make pillows, quilts and clothing items by following patterns and using embroidery and hand stitching.  Cross stitch embroidery students create beautifully designed masterpieces, while students taking the greeting cards course use their creativity and imaginations to design and create custom cards for all occasions.

An additional hands on mini-course uses “Tool Time” technology skills to read blueprints, follow directions and utilize the tools necessary to build birdhouses, toolboxes, napkin holders, key holders and other woodworking projects.  Music lovers explore the history of rock ‘n roll and enjoy the music of guest performers.   Future teachers learn basic teaching skills and assist with the instruction of a kindergarten class by reading stories, sharing experiences, and interacting with students.   Students wishing to strengthen their bodies and relax their minds learn basic stretching and breathing techniques in the yoga mini-course, while students looking to expand their minds, solve riddles, mazes, brain teasers and puzzles in the puzzle experience course.  Finally, prayer and comparative religion students strengthen their relationships with God by exercising numerous methods of prayer and investigating how other communities of faith pray.
