EDUCATION TAX CREDIT

The Empire State Child Credit is equal to 33% of the federal child tax credit.  This means that a $330 tax credit is provided for each child (between 4 and 16 years of age) for:

  • married parents filing jointly earning up to $110,000;

  • married parents filing separately, one of whom earns up to $55,000;

  • single parents earning up to $75,000.

The tax credit is reduced for parents earning up to $20,000 more than these designated amounts. Parents whose federally modified adjusted gross income is $17,000 or less are provided with a credit equal to $100 for each qualifying child. Eligible families can claim the Empire State Child Credit, beginning for the 2006 tax year, by using form IT 213.  If you’ve already filed your tax return, you can and should still submit the IT 213 form.

A NOTE FROM THE SCHOOL NURSE  Vision and hearing screenings have started and will continue into February.  All children in grades k, 1, 2, 3, 5, and 7 will be screened.  If your child wears glasses, please remind them to bring their glasses for the vision test.  Thank you!

HELP PUT EDUCATION TAX CREDITS IN Gov. SPITZER’S FIRST BUDGET!

In the coming weeks, Governor Spitzer will finalize his first Executive Budget proposal.  It is absolutely critical that Education Tax Credits be included in this proposal if they are to have a realistic chance of passing the legislature.  Take action now to urge the new Governor to include genuine education tax credits in the 2007-2008 State Budget!  Go to the N.Y.S. Catholic Conference website http://nyscatholic.org/pages/home/home.asp# and click on “Take Action”.  A letter will be there for you to send the Governor.

A Special Request...

In order to ensure the safety of our children, cones are placed across the driveway to prevent access up the hill during morning arrival, lunch recess and dismissal.  To avoid a dangerous situation and set a good example for our children, please comply with this policy.  Thank you!

A Special Message from the Principal...

It has recently been brought to my attention that a product called "DUST OFF", an aerosol can of compressed air used to clean computer keyboards, if "inhaled" can kill.  Some young people have also been using it for other purposes... fill in the blanks... and if you need further information, please call me.  The bottom line is, do not make it accessible to your child.  Better yet, use a vacuum to clean the computer keyboard and components.  An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Catholic Schools Week 2007...

On Sunday, January 28, 2007, ASR will kick off the annual celebration of Catholic Schools Week at the 10:00 Mass at St. Patrick's Church, followed by an Open House at our school.

This year our focus is to celebrate the Good News of Catholic Education in our everyday lives.

This is a time for students, teachers, staff members, parents and volunteers to recognize and celebrate our love of God and our service to others.

Throughout the week, our students will be participating in several exciting and special activities.  In addition to this, ASR will come together to help our community.

We have chosen to work with two local organizations local organizations:  The St. Patrick Outreach Program and
Glen Cove C.A.R.E.S.

On Monday, January 30, 2007 we will be collecting much needed supplies for the Outreach Program, which serves the homeless and needy families in our community.  At this time of the year their shelves are almost empty, and a small donation of good can make a big difference.  Each child is asked to donate one of the following non-perishable items:

Kindergarten Cereals
1st Grade small juice packs or
powdered milk
2nd Grade flip-top cans, such as
fruits or pudding
3rd Grade macaroni and cheese;
instant mashed potatoes
4th Grade canned vegetables
5th Grade peanut butter or jelly
6th Grade cans of tomato sauce;
crushed or diced tomatoes
7th Grade soups
8th Grade large soup cans

We will also be holding a week-long Coin-Drive for Glen Cove C.A.R.E.S.  This local organization was founded in 1996 by Glen Cove resident, Terry Petikas.  Today her work is carried on by a network of dedicated volunteers.  This organization provides a wide range of services and support to residents of Glen Cove and our neighboring communities coping with the crisis of cancer.  Our Coin-Drive will consist of four special containers, located on the main floor of the school.  Students can offer their pennies, nickels, dimes or quarters to make it a success.

We look forward to a wonderful Catholic Schools Week!  Thank you for your continuing support.
