Cool Sites for Students

Looking for that one piece of information that will make your class paper perfect...or that one answer that will help you finish your homework assignment? Looking for something worthwhile to keep your mind busy?  You COULD surf the Net for hours and hopefully stumble across what you are searching for...OR CLICK HERE for a list of sites that will help you go in the right direction!!  The list keeps growing every day, so don't forget to come back often to see what new treasures and interesting tidbits of information you can find.

  • 1001 Periodic Table Quiz Questions - Think you know the Periodic Table?  Test yourself!
  • A to Z Weather Index - Why do clouds appear lumpy? How does hail form? This huge alphabetical weather index answers your questions. If you have a question that's not answered, just "Ask Jack", the weather editor. If you're looking for weather forecasts, you'll find them organized by continent at the end of the alphabetic index.
  • Ancient Egypt - Let's hear it for the British Museum. Their staff has created a website dealing with many areas of study of Ancient Egypt. Explore Egyptian Life, Geography, Pyramids, and Time. Find out where writing was used in Ancient Egypt. Shockwave activities are included for each area of study. Check out the Staff area for a complete glossary and descriptions of resources.
  • Animal Omnibus - Looking for a specific animal on the Web can be difficult, but Omnibus makes it easy. The Animal Omnibus is a list of web sources indexed by the name of the animal.   • Ask Dr. Universe - Why do people need sleep? Why don’t spiders stick to their webs? Why does hair turn gray? Ask any question and graduate students at Washington State University  will answer you. Non-science questions are also welcome.
  • Ask Jeeves for Kids - This is a natural language search engine that is filtered to leave out improper information.  Natural language means that you can enter simple questions like "Why is the sky blue?" and be quickly taken to the answer.  Try it now!
  • Awesome Clipart for Kids - This is a nice collection of kid and family-friendly clip art for class projects, presentations, papers, and Web pages.
  • Berit's Best Sites for Children - This is a directory of safe, recommended Web sites (both educational and recreational) for kids up to age 12.     Return to Top of Page
  • Biography.com - This is a great site for finding biographies on over 20,000 famous people.
  • Birthday Traditions - Ever wonder how the tradition of birthday parties got started?  This site will tell you that and more.
  • B.J. Pinchbeck's Homework Helper - B.J. claims:  "If you can't find it here, then you just can't find it!"  He may be right!
  • Blast off into Space - Get ready to go on a great adventure.  Ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one...BLAST OFF.
  • BodyQuest - BodyQuest gives you detailed information on how the human body works.  It is especially designed for students between the ages of 11 and 16.

  • Children's Express - This site offers current news and information useful to kids of all ages.

  • Crayola - Did you know that Crayola Crayons had their own web site?  Well, they do!  Find all kinds of fun information and activities.
  • Creatures of the Night and You -  What is it about the night and its creatures that makes us want to go inside and turn on the lights?   Who and what's out there?  Find out here.
  • Critters - This is where you will find out about all of the animals, bugs, pets, and fish. Tiny bugs, huge mammals, and everything in between can be found here.

  • Dictionary.com - This site features dictionaries in several languages.
  • Dictionary by Merriam-Webster - This online dictionary has added features, such as the "Word of the Day."
  • Dictionary (VoyCabulary) - VoyCabulary allows you to click on any word on any webpage to look it up, quick and easy.
  • Dino Directory - Search for dinosaurs by body type or location where dinosaur bones/fossils have been found.  A great activity would be to look at different type of dinosaurs, and map the countries where their bones and fossils were discovered.

  • Encyclopedia Internet - This reference site helps you find information on just about any subject.

  • Infonation -  InfoNation is an easy-to-use, two-step database that allows you to view and compare the most up-to-date statistical data for the Member States of the United Nations.
  • Infoplease Kids - This is an almanac, encyclopedia, and dictionary all bundled up into one great site.
    Internet Public Library Youth Division - This is a whole library at your fingertips!
  • Introduction to Geometry - Okay, so learning about Geometry is not exactly fun and games.  This site, however, teaches you the basics quickly and easily.  Give it a try.

  • KidsClick! - This is a GREAT search tool designed by librarians to help you find information on just about any topic quickly and easily. It will come in very handy as a homework helper.

  • Kids Web - The Digital Library for K-12 Students - Kids Web is a library that provides you with easy-to-navigate links dealing mainly with the Arts, Science, and Social Studies. There is also a 'fun' area that's informative as well.
