Catholic Schools Week

January 27 - February 2, 2008

The 2008 theme is: Catholic Schools Light the Way
National Appreciation Day For Catholic Schools is Wednesday, January 30

Events:

All Saints Regional Catholic School recently celebrated Catholic School’s Week with the theme of “Catholic School’s Light the Way”.  The week began on Sunday with opening liturgies at each of the school’s five regional parishes, St. Boniface Martyr, Sea Cliff,

St. Hyacinth, Glen Head, St. Mary, Roslyn, St. Patrick, Glen Cove and St. Rocco, Glen Cove,  followed by Open Houses at our two cam

puses for current and prospective families.

On Monday, the children focused on “Catholic School’s Light the Way” by donating food to outreach programs at the school’s five regional parishes, collecting gift cards for families of children being cared for at the Winthrop University Hospital Pediatric/Oncology Unit, and displaying their artwork at the Glen Cove Public Library.  Tuesday, the students concentrated on vocations as 8th grade students acted as “Teachers for the Day” for the younger grades and clergy from the regional parishes visited with students.

On Wednesday, All Saints Regional Catholic School focused on the students with the suspension of all daily homework and uniform requirements and an assembly featuring the Simon Sez Show; this multi-sensory assembly centered around the Simon Sez framework to promote better listening, showing respect, staying focused, saying no to peer pressure and that it’s OK to make mistakes.

The nation was the focal point of Thursday’s activities as students prayed the rosary for peace together and remembered our local soldiers.  Students committed to pray for specific community members in the armed forces during the year by writing the soldier’s name on paper flags on display in windows throughout the school.  The day’s events were concluded in the afternoon with the celebration of Spirit Day as the teachers and 8th grade students engaged in a competitive volleyball game.

ASR concluded Catholic School’s Week on Friday by centering activities on “Catholic School’s Light the Way in Faculty, Staff and Volunteers”.  A closing Mass was celebrated with the entire student body and several parents; a Volunteer Thank You Breakfast followed during which kindergarten through 2nd graders sang to volunteers.  Later in the day, a special luncheon was held for the school’s faculty and staff.  For further information on All Saints Regional Catholic Elementary School, please call 676-0762.
