ASR Student Handbook

Introduction

All Saints Regional Catholic School was founded in 1990 to serve the parishes of

St. Boniface Martyr, Sea Cliff, St. Hyacinth, Glen Head, St. Mary, Roslyn, St. Patrick, Glen Cove and St. Rocco, Glen Cove.

All Saints Regional is a Nursery through Grade Eight school and is situated on two campuses.  The Nursery and Pre-K are located at 321 Cedar Swamp Road in Glen Head.  Grades K-8 are located at 12 Pearsall Avenue in Glen Cove.

This handbook is given to parents and students to use as a guide to the school and its policies.  While it may be impossible to include everything in these pages, we have tried to cover as many of the daily events as possible.  Please read this book carefully and discuss it at home.

Attendance

Students should arrive at school between 8:00 and 8:15 A.M.  Morning supervision is provided beginning at 8:00 A.M.  For their safety, students should not be dropped off before that time.

Students in grades K-4 are dropped off at the cafeteria, and those in grades 5-8 meet on the hill or in the upstairs corridor depending upon the weather.  Students may not go to their classrooms to drop off their books first.

The homeroom bell rings at 8:20 A.M. and the side door to the cafeteria is closed at this time.  When the children begin to go to their classrooms, parents are requested to leave.  This is not the time to speak to teachers, since they are supervising the children.

Students will be marked late if they arrive after the 8:20 bell has rung.  Students coming in late must get a late pass at the office before going to class.  A student who is often late may be asked to remain after school to make up the time, or to remain indoors during the lunch recreation.

School dismissal begins at 2:15 P.M. for the busses.  Children who go home by car will be dismissed FROM THE PARKING LOT at 2:30 P.M.

The laws of the state of New York make attendance at school mandatory.  Frequent absences lessen a child’s interest in his/her work and make it difficult for him/her to maintain a high standard of performance.

In the case of a child missing more than thirty (30) days, it is possible that he/she will be asked to repeat the grade.  No grades will be given to student who misses more than half of the marking period.

In the event a student is to be absent from school, please call the MAIN OFFICE at 676-0762 between 8:00 A.M. and 8:30 A.M.  All requests for homework must be made by 11:30 A.M.  Homework may be picked up at 2:30 in the main office.

A note from the parent or guardian explaining the absence must be given to the teacher on the first day the child returns to school if the absence is to be recorded as an excused absence.  An absence of three consecutive days requires a note from a doctor.

Family vacations that interfere with a student’s attendance are taken at academic risk to the student.  It is requested that vacations always be planned so that they coincide with the school calendar.  It is school policy that assignments will not be given before the child leaves on a family vacation.

Students are responsible for all schoolwork missed because of absence.

Early Dismissal

Parents wishing to have their children excused early are to inform the homeroom teacher, by note, at the beginning of the day.  This request will then be authorized by the Principal.  The child’s parent or guardian must report to the school office to sign the release book and to personally accompany the student from the building.

Parents are strongly urged to schedule all medical, dental, and other appointments after school hours to help insure undisturbed learning experiences for their child.

Students may only use the telephone in the school office with permission from the Administration.  Students are discouraged from calling home for assignments, lunches, or gym equipment.

Fighting, hitting, teasing, shouting, “horsing around”, or the use of vulgar language is not acceptable.

Drivers are to be treated with respect.  Each student it to be reminded that he/she is to do nothing that will distract the driver from his/her driving.
